Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Del. - The Providence College softball team ran its win streak to four games as it posted two more victories on Saturday, March 18 at the Bash at the Beach Tournament in Georgetown, Del. PC defeated St. Peter's, 6-1, and Lafayette, 8-6. The Friars, who also have won nine of their last 10 games, improved to 12-4.

The Friars opened the day with a 6-1 triumph over St. Peter's. Junior pitcher Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) earned the win as she allowed one run on two hits and struck five batters. PC led 3-0 after three innings and added three more runs in the fourth inning en route to the win. At the plate, the Friars were led by junior Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and freshman Gina Rossi (Bakersfield, Calif.) who each had two hits. The Friars hit four doubles, three of which came in the three-run fourth inning.

In the second game, PC trailed 6-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning when the game was delayed for over one hour because of darkness. Both teams then moved over to a lighted field. The delay proved to spark the Friars, who had bases loaded prior to the game being momentarily halted. PC scored five runs in the inning to cut Lafayette's lead to 6-5. The five-run fourth inning was highlighted by Rossi's two-run single. The Friars went ahead in the sixth inning when Bartholomew smacked a three-run home run go give the Friars the lead for good. Surosky, who came entered the game in the fifth inning in a relief appearance, improved to 7-4.

The Friars will continue play at the Bash at the Beach Tournament on Saturday, March 19 with an opponent and time yet to be determined.
