ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Providence College softball team (7-3) extended its win streak to four straight with a pair of victories on the first day of the Winthrop Invitational. PC rolled over South Carolina State, 11-1, in its first game of the day, and later defeated the College of Charleston, 5-4.
Sophomore Sam Pittman led the Friars hitfest with three hits and two RBI against SCSU. Allowing South Carolina State to score in the first inning, PC answered with a six-run third inning and cruised the rest of the way. The Friars added a pair of runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule. South Carolina State totaled seven errors.
PC freshman Jennifer Maccio picked up her first collegiate win as she scattered six hits over five innings.
