PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team defeated Dartmouth College in both games of a double header, 3-0, and 9-1 on Thursday, April 7 at Raymond Field.

The Friars won the first game of the double header 3-0. Senior Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season and it marked the third time this season that she has recorded ten or more strikeouts. She allowed only three hits and recorded 11 strikeouts in the victory. The Friars started the first inning off by scoring all three of their runs. Sophomore Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) had a single that drove in the first run of the game. Freshman Sam Pittman (San Diego, Calif.) also had single that drove in two more runs, which was all the offense the Friars needed for the victory.

The Friars jumped out to a two-run lead in the second game. Juniors Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) and Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) had singles that drove in runs. The Friars added on to their lead by scoring four more runs in the third inning and never looked back. In the fourth inning, sophomore Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) hit a solo home run, then hit another solo home run in the sixth inning to end the game. It marked was her fourth and fifth home runs of the season.

For the Friars, sophomore Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) pitched six solid innings in the victory. She only allowed three hits, one run, and struck out six in the victory.

The Friars (20-7) will be home at Raymond Field to take on Rutgers in BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday, April 9.
