Softball Set To Host Pivotal BIG EAST Conference Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (25-10) looks to extend its two-game winning streak this weekend as it hosts a quartet of games at PC's Raymond Field. On Saturday, April 16th, the Friars welcome Notre Dame (25-8, 4-0 BIG EAST) for a conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. PC will also take on Pittsburgh (15-19, 2-2 BIG EAST) in a conference twin bill beginning on Sunday, April 17th at 12:00 p.m. Click on the games below to follow the action online via Gametracker.

Providence is led by senior Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who leads the team with a .373 batting average, a figure that ranks third overall in the BIG EAST. Additionally, she leads the team with 14 multiple hit games. Sophomore Shannon Garvin (Fresno, Calif.) has been swinging a hot bat of late carrying an eight-game hit streak into this weekend's action. Garvin ranks third on the squad with a .339 batting average, and also carries five home runs and 20 RBI. Overall, the Friars rank second in the BIG EAST with a .293 team batting average and 29 home runs.

On the mound senior Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) leads the team with 12 wins on the year and 135 strikeouts. Carrying a 1.74 ERA, she has tallied eight shutouts and allowed just 13 extra base hits over 116.2 innings pitched. Already PC's all-time strikeout leader, Bartholomew also leads the BIG EAST Conference with 15 complete games to her credit. As a team, the Friars hold a 1.75 team ERA, holding opponents to a stingy .209 batting average.

Notre Dame is currently riding a 14-game winning streak and is led by Megan Ciolli who totes a .388 batting average and 18 stolen bases. Liz Hartmann leads the Irish with 24 RBI and also has a .312 batting average. On the mound, Heather Booth (13-4, 1.07 ERA) and Steffa Stenglein (11-4, 1.50 ERA) are expected to get the starts on Saturday. Booth leads the team with 111.2 innings pitched having fanned 94 batters, while Stenglein leads the team with 145 strikeouts having pitched 98.0 innings.

Pitt has lost its last four contests, and is led by Francesca DiMaria's .326 batting average. She is the only Panther batting over .300. On the mound, Christa Hunter (7-9, 2.98 ERA) leads the team with 105.2 innings pitched and nine complete games. Laura Belardinell (6-7, 3.20 ERA) is also expected to start a game. She has accumulated 40 strikeouts over 85.1 innings pitched.
