PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College sophomore Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week on Monday, April 5. It marks the fourth time that a Providence player has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades and the first time since 2001 when Kerri Jacklets earned the honor.
Willette led the Friars to a 3-2-1 record last week. In six games, Willette batted .400, with four home runs, five runs scored and six runs batted in. On Tuesday, March 30, Willette hit two home runs, including a two-run walk-off homer to lead the Friars to a 5-4 victory over Harvard in eight innings. Willette continued her power surge on Saturday, April 3. She belted another two-run game-winning home run as Providence defeated Seton Hall, 5-3, in the first game of a double header. On Sunday, April 4 Willette hammered her fourth home run of the week in PC's 2-1 victory over St. John's as Providence earned a double header split to improve to 18-10-1 overall and 4-4 in the BIG EAST.
For the season, Willette is fourth on the team with a .301 batting average. In addition, she is tied for second in home runs (6) and third in RBI (17).
