Softball Splits Two at the Rebel Games

OCOEE, Fla. - The Providence College softball team split a pair of contests at the Rebel Games on Monday, March 8. Providence defeated Quinnipiac, 5-2, and was defeated, 7-6, in the nightcap by Central Michigan.

In the game versus Quinnipiac, the Friars trailed 2-0 after three innings, but scored in each of the next three innings to earn the win. Freshman Rachel Bartholomew (Coto De Caza, Calif.) had two hits, including a two-run single in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Junior Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had an RBI single in the fifth inning to give PC the lead for good. On the mound, senior Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) pitched four shutout innings of relief to earn her first victory of the season.

In the nightcap, Central Michigan's Christan Dhont hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as Chippewas earned a 7-6 victory. Providence was down, 6-4, in the seventh inning, but junior Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.) hit a two-run single to tie the game at 6-6. Senior Jackie Karsnia (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) each had two hits and two runs. Junior Caitlyn Sheehan (Rehoboth, Mass.) made her first collegiate start on the mound for the Friars, pitching four innings and striking out two batters. Junior Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) came in relief and pitched three plus innings.

Providence will return to action on Tuesday, March 9 as they will play Niagara and Toledo.
