STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Connecticut, 1-0, 3-0, in a BIG EAST double header on Wednesday, April 30 at the UConn Softball Stadium.

Friar pitcher Cori Van Dusen was impressive in the first game as she pitched a complete game, allowing one run on three hits. However, the Huskies scored the only run of the game in the third inning as Mandy Schettini drove in Nikki Ribeiro on a sacrifice fly. On the mound, Barbara Cook allowed just one hit to Friar batters, while striking out eight. Senior Sarah Morin (Westerly, R.I.) had PC's lone hit.

In the second game, PC sophomore pitcher Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) had a strong outing, allowing three runs, five hits and posting eight strikeouts. Claire Hesson and Michelle Caouette combined to pitch a two-hit shutout and struck out eight batters for the Huskies. Jennifer Ward drove in all three runs for the Huskies, with a two-run single in the fourth inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning. Freshman Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.) accounted for both Friar hits.

Providence returns to action on Thursday, May 1 with a BIG EAST double header at St. John's.
