Providence Softball Splits Two Games

The Providence College softball team completed the Rebel Games with a 5-1 mark as it lost to Austin Peay, 1-0, and defeated Robert Morris, 5-1, on March 12. The Friars improved to 5-4 overall on the season.

In the Robert Morris game, the Friars jumped to a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back en route to a 5-1 victory. Freshman Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) had three hits and drove in two runs. On the mound, senior Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and junior Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) allowed just one run on three hits for the Friars who have won four of their last five.

Against Austin Peay, the Friars only managed three hits and no runs as Heather Skeels pitched seven shutout innings.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, March 14 as they will play Tulsa and Tennesse State at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
