Sacred Heart (5-6, 1-1 NEC): The Sacred Heart University field hockey team will face Providence College in non-conference action on Friday, October 3 in Providence, R.I. at 3:00 p.m. Sacred Heart enters Friday's game with a 5-6 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers are led by Julie Messenger, who has scored 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Becky Ford is second on the Pioneer squad in scoring with 14 points on seven goals, while Christy Bobe has recorded 10 points on two goals and six assists. Robyn Breer has played 691 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and has made 71 saves and allowed 17 goals. Breer owns a .807 save percentage and a 1.72 goals against average.
Providence College (6-4, 0-1 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team hosts the Sacred Heart Pioneers in non-conference action on Friday, October 3 at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I. The two teams will meet for just the third time in the 28-year existence of the Friar field hockey program. Providence holds the advantage in the all-time series, with a 2-0 record in games versus the Pioneers. In 2001, the Friars opened the all-time series with a 2-0 victory in Providence, R.I. Last season, Providence defeated Sacred Heart, 4-1, in Fairfield, Conn. on September 8.
Providence College enters Friday's game with a 6-4 overall record. The Friars are led offensively by sophomore forward Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.), who has scored 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. Lary has earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions this season and ECAC Player of the Week honors once. Lary ranks second in overall scoring among BIG EAST Conference players. Freshman forward Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) is second on the team in scoring with 16 points. She is tied with Lary for the team lead in goals scored (seven) and has two assists to her credit. Senior midfielder Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) and junior forward Amy Phillips (Worcester, Mass.) each have 12 points on the year. Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) has played 672 minutes of action in the cage for the Friars. She has recorded 84 saves and allowed 21 goals, earning her a .800 save percentage and a 2.19 goals against average.
