Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Providence College softball team closed the season on Sunday, May 6th at Virginia Tech University where the Hokies swept the Friars in the season's final regular-season doubleheader.
The Hokies (36-23 overall and 12-8 BIG EAST) recorded back-to-back shutouts of the Friars (23-28-1 overall and 4-16 in BIG EAST play). Providence managed just three hits in a game-one 2-0 shutout loss and was limited to only two hits in the game-two 3-0 loss.
PC freshman pitcher Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) scattered seven hits in the game-one loss, as she fell to 5-11 overall on the year. Clarisa Crowell limited PC to three singles to earn her 11th victory of the year while the Hokies' offense game from solo home runs by Bronwyn Blair in the third inning and Shanel Garofalo in the sixth inning.
In game two Ashlee Dobbe of Virginia Tech struck out eight PC batters and allowed just two singles while leading the Hokies to a 3-0 win. Providence pitcher Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) pitched a complete game and gave up two runs in the fourth inning on two PC errors and the Hokies scored the third and final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Friars season comes to a close with the doubleheader losses. PC graduates five senior: catcher Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.), senior thirdbaseman Nicole Nelson (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and senior secondbaseman Gwyn Mangini (Gansevoort, N.Y.), outfielder Lynnette Rosa (Newport, R.I.) and righthand pitcher Robyn West (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).
