SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Providence College softball team was swept in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday, April 29th. The Irish won the games, 10-0 in five innings, and 5-0 in game two.
The Friars (22-25 overall/4-14 BIG EAST) were limited to just three hits in the five-inning, game-one outing by UND pitcher Jen Sharron while PC starter, senior Robyn West (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) pitched four innings and allowed 12 hits, 10 runs and eight earned runs.
The ninth-ranked Irish (47-3 overall/16-0 BIG EAST) scored four runs in the first inning off West, then added the final six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the second game, UND scored two runs in the second inning, two in the third and the final run in the bottom of the sixth inning off Providence starter Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.). The Friars' batters fared better at the plate in game two, totalling seven hits off Kristin Schmidt and Jessica Sharron combined in game two.
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, May 1st when they face Brown University at 3:00 p.m. across town.
