PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Providence College softball team split a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 28th at the University of Pittsburgh, falling in game one, 2-0, and winning game two, 7-1.
Freshman Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) pitched a complete-game six-hitting in the Friars' game two victory. She allowed just one run and struck out five as she improved to 5-10 on the year.
Senior second baseman Gwyn Mangini (Gansevoort, N.Y.) helped supply the offense in the win, connecting on her first career home run and she scored two runs in the victory.
In game one, the Friars were held to just two hits in the shutout loss to Pitt.
Providence improves to 22-24 overall on the season and 4-12 in BIG EAST play. The 22 overall victories and the four conference wins surpass the 21 and three that the Providence team reached last season.
PC returns to action on Sunday, April 29th at the University of Notre Dame. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
