Providence, R.I.- The Providence College softball team lost both games of today's doubleheader with Villanova University, 5-0 and 10-1 (five innings).

In game one, Villanova's Gina DeFrancesco started things off with a RBI single in the top of the second inning. The Wildcats got on the board again in the fifth, with Heather Garboden knocking a two-RBI single to right field and Sara Carlson hitting a two-run homer to right centerfield.

PC's Robyn West (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) took the loss to drop to 4-7 on the mound. She gave up seven hits in 4.1 innings of work. Megan Wargin (Plantation, Fla.) completed the game, allowing just two hits in the final 2.2 innings. Villanova's hurler Keri Stoller picked up her 16th win after fanning six batters over 4.0 innings. Theresa Hornick had two strikeouts in the two innings she pitched, while Faith Meisinger closed out the game for the Wildcats.

Villanova was also first to score in game two in the top of the first, as Garboden had a two-RBI single to right field and Kristen Verhoff had a RBI single to bring in Garboden. PC scored their lone run in the bottom of the first as Nicole Nelson (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) scored off of Heather Nathan's (South Hempstead, N.Y.) RBI single. The Wildcats responded with another run in the second, with Mia Brickhouse crossing home plate on a Garboden single. Villanova then ended the game early, scoring six runs in the fifth.

Villanova's Carrie Walpole improved to 16-4 on the year, giving up only five hits in five innings of work. PC's Nathan fell to 4-7, allowing 13 hits and six earned runs.

After today's game, Providence falls to 20-27 overall and 3-13 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova improves to 35-15-1 overall and 9-7 in BIG EAST action.

Providence returns to action on Tuesday, May 2, when they host Brown University for the final games of the regular season. Game time for the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
