Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, R.I.- The Providence College softball team split their series this season with St. John's University, dropping game one, 2-0, while winning game two, 5-1.
In game one, St. John's Ann Raab started the second inning with a home run to left field to put the Red Storm on the board. St. John's then sealed the win as Tiffany Howerton hit a RBI single to centerfield to bring in Lauren Fisher.
St. John's hurler Gina Calabrese tied her school's record for most wins in a season (15) with the victory, while Providence's Missy Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) fell to 9-7 on the mound.
Peterson came back, however, in game two for her 10th win of the season as she only giving up three hits and one earned run. Michele Crokus took the loss for St. John's, dropping to 0-2 on the season.
The Red Storm scored first as Jessica Shepard knocked a RBI single to left field to allow Raab to cross home plate in the second inning. The Friars then tied things up in the fourth, with Heather Nathan (South Hempstead, N.Y.) hitting a RBI double to centerfield, bringing in Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.). In the fifth, PC scored four more runs led by Jacklets' RBI double. Jacklets finished the game, going 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, April 16, when they host the Pirates of Seton Hall University. Game time for the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m.
