Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, R.I.- Nicole Nelson knocked her first grand slam home run of the season in game one this afternoon in Worcester, Mass., to lead Providence to a 10-0 win over Holy Cross. The Friars also won game two of the double bill, 8-0.
In game one, the Friars got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning, as Amber Carr had a RBI double to allow Jami Servidone to score. Sarah Morin followed with a RBI single as Carr crossed home plate. Then with two outs and bases loaded, Nelson hit her grand slam home run, bringing in Bonnie Skrenta, Morin and Lynnette Rosa.
Carr then had a solo home run in the fifth inning to put the Friars up, 7-0. PC then rounded out their offensive effort in the sixth, as Carr added a two RBI single and Nelson also had a RBI single. Nelson completed game one going 3-for-4 with five RBIs and Carr went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
Providence's Missy Peterson improved to 8-6 on the mound after only giving up one hit and fanning seven batters in six innings. Holy Cross' Caitlyn McCarthy fell to 0-9 on the season.
In game two, the Friars scored four runs in the top of the third, led by Kerri Jacklets' two RBI triple. Heather Nathan also had a RBI double as the Friars ended the inning, 4-0. Servidone put PC on the board again in the fifth with her RBI double to right center. The Friars had three more runs in the seventh, as Nathan knocked a RBI double to center field. Nathan was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in game two, while Jacklets was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Nathan and Megan Wargin shared the pitching duties for game two. Nathan pitched the first five innings, giving up three hits while she improved her record to 2-6 on the season. Wargin took the last two innings, only allowing one hit from the Crusaders. Megan Manner fell to 2-6 after allowing four hits and four runs in three innings, while Kait Hannan completed the game, giving up seven hits and three earned runs in the final four innings.
Providence returns to action on Thursday, April 13, when they travel to Hartford, Conn., to take on the Hawks of the University of Hartford. Game time for the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
