Softball Friars Split Doubleheader With Holy Cross

Providence, Rhode Island - Sophomore pitcher Robyn West (Gansevoort, N.Y.) pitched a complete game and delivered the game winning hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Providence College Friars to a 3-2 win over Holy Cross in the first game of their doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Glay Field.

West was 2-for-3 in the game while Jami Servidone (Jr., Rennselaer, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with two rbi's in the win. West improved her record to 6-9 on the season while HC's Caitlyn McCarthy took the loss to fall to 2-9 on the year.

In the nightcap, Holy Cross' Genoa Grosch surrendered just two hits as the Crusaders scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Friars, 3-0. Genoa gave up just two hits to PC, a double to Heather Nathan (Jr., So. Hempstead, N.Y.) and a single to Lindsay Garfield (Sr., Milford, Conn.) in the bottom of the seventh. She struck out 13 and walked just two in improving her record to 11-5. PC starter Megan Wargin (Fr., Plantation, Fla.) fell to 0-2 with the loss as she held the Crusaders to just two hits also.

Holy Cross got their three runs in the seventh on a pair of walks and three Providence errors.

Providence is now 9-24 on the season while Holy Cross is 14-16 overall. PC returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Brown for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
