Softball Friars Drop Two At Rutgers

Piscataway, N.J. - The Providence College softball team ran into a red-hot Rutgers Scarlet Knight team on Saturday afternoon at the Rutgers Athletic Complex falling 13-5 and 10-2 in games that ended after five innings due to the eight run rule.

The losses drop PC to 12-37 overall and 3-11 in BIG EAST play while Rutgers is now 26-24 on the season and 7-7 in league action. The Friars close out the regular season on Sunday with a doubleheader at Villanova beginning at 12 noon.

Rutgers pounded out 17 hits in the opener with every batter getting at least one hit. First baseman Kelly Crosson led the way with a 3-for-4 game and four rbi's. Jami Servidone hit her fifth homer of the season and Bonnie Skrenta drove in a pair of runs in the 13-5 loss.

Robyn West took the loss to fall to 7-16. Rutgers' Juliette Brooks got the win to go to 21-10 on the season.

Game two saw the Scarlet Knights score four runs in the first on the way to a 10-2 win. Five Scarlet Knight hitters had two hits in the game. Center fielder Jamie Chmielowicz had three rbi's in each game.

PC shortstop Andrea Weyl hit her first home run of the season driving in the Friars only runs in the top of the fifth. Heather Nathan took the loss to fall to 4-19 on the year. Adrienne Dolbow got the win for Rutgers to improve to 2-1 on the season.
