FAIRFIELD, CT - Kelly Ellis scored two runs, including the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Fairfield University (20-20) defeat Providence College (15-20-2) by a 2-1 score in the first game of a double header. The Friars rebounded with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Providence took the lead with an unearned run in the fourth with Nicole Nelson reached on an error. Val Bono followed with an RBI double to centerfield, scoring Nelson and giving Providence a 1-0 lead. The Stags tied the score in the fifth when Ellis reached first base with a walk and went to second base on a sacrifice. Theresa O'Connor stroked an infield single but an errant throw to first allowed Ellis to come around and tie the game. Ellis led off the seventh inning with a single, was sacrificed to second and scored again on a bad throw to first.

Providence left little doubt in the nightcap, scoring two runs in both the first and third innings. In the first, Kerri Jacklets reached second off a misplayed fly ball to center and come home on Bono's two-run homerun. Kristi Lyman and Jacklets scored the two runs in the third inning off Bono's sacrifice bly and Gwyn Mangini's RBI single.
