Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, Rhode Island - The Providence College softball team ran into the strong pitching staff of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and lost in a pair of shutouts, 3-0 and 1-0, at PC's Glay Field on Sunday afternoon.
Notre Dame's Jennifer Sharron and Michelle Moschel combined on a five-hitter in game one and got a two-run single from leftfielder Lizzy Lemire in the top of the first to win the opener, 3-0.
Sharron pitched six innings giving up four hits while walking one and striking out six in moving her record to 14-7 on the year. Moschel pitched the seventh giving up one hit while striking out two for her fourth save of the year. The Friars wasted a strong pitching performance from Heather Nathan who gave up nine hits and three runs as her record fell to 4-17 on the year.
In game two, Notre Dame's Angela Bessolo and Melanie Alkire combined on a one-hitter, while PC's Robyn West pitched a complete game scattering three hits in the loss. Bessolo gave up a fifth inning single to Nathan for PC's only hit of the day. Bessolo pitched 4-and-1/3 innings to get the win and is now 12-5 on the year. Alkire pitched 2-and2/3 innings to get her third save.
West fell to 7-14 on the year. Notre Dame scored the only run of the game in the third when Amy Laboe walked and then stole second. Alkire followed with a double to right center for the game's only rbi.
The two losses drops the Friars to 12-33 overall and 3-9 in league play. Notre Dame is 34-17 for the year and is unbeaten in the BIG EAST with a 12-0 record.
Providence returns to action on Wednesday, April 28th when the Friars travel to the University of Rhode Island for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
