Friars' Softball Season Ends with Sweep by Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Providence College softball team saw the 1999 season come to an end at Villanova. Pennsylvania as the Friars fell, 4-1 and 5-0 to the Wildcats in BIG EAST action.

The Friars' season ended with a 12-39 overall record and a 3-13 record in league play. Villanova finished at 42-14-2 overall and 9-7 in the BIG EAST. Neither team will play in the BIG EAST Tournament which will be played on Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9 at the University of Connecticut.

In game one, PC starter Robyn West gave up two runs in the second and two in the fourth as she saw her record fall to 7-17 on the season. Villanova's Carrie Walpole got the win to improve to 17-7 on the year.

Kerri Jacklets drove in the Friars' only run with a single in the fifth.

In the nightcap, the Friars had just four hits with designated hitter Megan Wargin getting two of them in the 5-0 shutout.

Villanova starter Kerri Stoller pitched the four-hit, shutout with seven strikeouts to improve her record to 21-6. Heather Nathan pitched the complete game for Providence as her record falls to 4-20 on the season.
