Sabou Gueye Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll For A Fourth Time

Gueye averaged 14.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game last week.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College graduate transfer Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for women's basketball on Jan. 5. It marks the fourth time this season that Gueye has been featured on the league's weekly honor roll.
 
In two games last week, Gueye averaged 14.5 points on 50-percent shooting from the field (10-20). She also converted 8-10 free throw attempts (.800) and added 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game.
 
On Dec. 31, she recorded 12 points on 4-6 shooting against top-ranked Connecticut and registered two rebounds and four steals. In Providence's come-back victory over DePaul on Jan. 4, Gueye led all scorers with 17 points, including 10 in the decisive second half rally. She also contributed three boards, five assists, three blocked shots and one steal.
 
Through 16 games overall, Gueye leads Providence in scoring (14.1 ppg) and averages 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocked shots and 1.94 steals per game. Gueye ranks inside the top-10 in the BIG EAST in points (6th, 226), points per game (8th, 14.1), field-goal percentage (3rd, .497), free-throw percentage (7th, .745), blocks (9th, 17), steals (7th, 31) and steals per game (8th, 1.94).
 
The Friars (9-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) return to action on Thursday, Jan. 8 against Seton Hall at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
