Sabou Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 19. Gueye has been named to the league's honor roll five times this season, having previously been recognized on Nov. 17, Nov. 24, Dec. 22 and Jan. 5.
Last week, Gueye averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game.
She recorded 22 points, eight rebounds, four steals and one assist against Butler on Jan. 14. She eclipsed 20 points for a second-straight game on Jan. 17 against Creighton. She finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Gueye shot 58.3-percent from the field on the week (21-36). Additionally, eight of Gueye's team-best 15 rebounds came off the offensive glass.
Through 20 games, Gueye is ranked inside the top 10 in six statistical categories among BIG EAST players. She ranks fifth in the league in points (284), seventh in points per game (14.2 ppg), 10th in rebounding (5.8 rpg), fifth in field-goal percentage (.486), ninth in steals per game (2.0 spg) and 10th in blocked shots (1.0 bpg). Gueye leads the Friars in double-digit scoring games (13) and 20-point games (five) and is tied for the team lead in double-doubles (two). Additionally, Gueye is tied for fourth in the league in 20-point games.
Providence returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 20 against Seton Hall. The game will be played at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. and will tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
