PROVIDENCE HITS THE ROAD FOR BIG EAST OPENER… The Friars will open BIG EAST play on the road at No. 17/15 Georgetown on Saturday, March 29. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

SERIES BREAKDOWN… Saturday's game between Providence and Georgetown will mark the 22nd meeting between the two programs all-time. Georgetown leads the series 19-2.
MOST RECENT MEETING... The teams last met during the 2024 BIG EAST Semifinals in Villanova, Pa. The Friars were defeated by Georgetown, 14-13, in overtime.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN… The Hoyas have started their season 5-3 and are currently ranked 17th in the USILA Poll and 15th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Most recently, Georgetown was defeated by No. 14/14 Richmond, 13-12, on March 22.
HOYAS TO WATCH… The Hoyas' offense is led by graduate student Aidan Carroll who has recorded a team-high 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists. Three other players have recorded double-digit goals, including Fulton Bayman (18), Kevin Miller (13) and Joe Cesare (11). Robert Plath leads Georgetown's defense with 19 caused turnover and 11 groundballs. Anderson Moore has started all eight games for the Hoyas in net. He has recorded 77 saves with a .517 save percentage.
FRIARS DEFEATED BY SAINT JOSEPH'S... The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No.18/19 Saint Joseph's, 16-8, on Saturday, March 22 in Philadelphia, Pa. With the loss, the Friars fell to 4-5 on the season. Ryan Bell led the Friars' offense with two points on one goal and one assist.
RYAN BELL IN THE RECORD BOOKS... Senior Ryan Bell set the all-time career scoring record on Saturday, Feb. 22 during the Friars' game at Brown. Entering Saturday's game against Georgetown he has recorded 208 career points (61 goals and 147 assists). Ken Leahy '00 held the record previously, scoring 188 points (112 goals / 76 assists) from 1997-00.
Bell also is the program's all-time assist leader (147), having passed Matt Pymm '99, who closed his career with 102 assists. He also set the single-season assist record (45) and single-season point record (66) during the final game of 2024 season. Kyle Ojakian previously set both records with 42 assists and 63 points in 2002.
On March 8, Bell became the first Friar to reach 200 career points during the team's game against Loyola (Md.).
JACK HORRIGAN MOVING UP ALL-TIME CAREER SCORING AND GOALS LIST... Senior Jack Horrigan is currently tied for 17th on the all-time scoring list and tied for sixth on the all-time career goals list. He enters Saturday's game against Georgetown with 117 career points on 94 goals and 23 assists.
RICHIE JOSEPH REACHES 100-POINT MILESTONE... Junior Richie Joseph ranks 19th all-time at Providence with 73 career goals. Joseph goal against Saint Joseph's marked his 100th career point (73 goals / 26 assists).
JACK HORRIGAN IS TIED FOR FIRST IN THE NATION IN MAN-UP GOALS... Jack Horrigan leads the BIG EAST and is tied for first in the nation in man-up goals (six). He is tied with three players for the NCAA lead, with six man-up goals.
ON THE OFFENSIVE... Through nine games, Ryan Bell leads the Friars in scoring with 38 points on 10 goals and team-best 28 assists. Jack Horrigan is second on the team in scoring with 28 points on team-best 21 goals and seven assists. Richie Joseph is second in goals (20). Joseph ranks first in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.71) and sixth in points per game (3.57). Bell leads the BIG EAST in assists per game (3.38) and points per game (4.50). Bell is fourth in the NCAA averaging 3.11 assists per game.
QUINN MCCONNAUGHEY AT THE 'X'... Quinn McConnaughey has been the Friars' primary face-off man this season. He has won 90-of-155 opportunities and has recorded a .507 face-off percentage. McConnaughey ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in groundballs per game (4.00) and ranks seventh in the BIG EAST and 22nd in the nation in face-off percentage (.507).
DEFENSIVE LEADERS... Gregg Dennison, Dean Metzgar and Ian Olenik have anchored the Friars' defensive line. Through nine games, Dennison leads the team in caused turnovers (eight) and has picked up 14 groundballs. Metzgar has caused five turnovers and recorded 14 groundballs, while Olenik has tallied six caused turnovers and 12 groundballs.
DAN DONAHUE SOLID IN FIRST SEASON WITH FRIARS... In his first season with the program, grad student Dan Donahue has started each of the Friars' nine games in between the pipes. He has recorded 102 saves and a .510 save percentage. Donahue ranks second in the BIG EAST in saves per game with 11.63 and fourth in save percentage (.531). Donahue is a three-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection.
FRIARS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS... Earlier this season, Providence was ranked 20th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll on Feb. 10, but dropped out of the rankings following its, 12-10, loss to No. 19/17 Harvard. The Friars are 0-4 vs. nationally-ranked opponents in 2025 overall.
RYAN BELL NAMED TO THE 2025 TEWAARATON WATCH LIST... Providence College senior Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) has been named to the 2025 Tewaaraton Watch List. The Tewaaraton Foundation announced its first round of additions on February 6. Bell is the third Providence College player to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List. He was named to the list last season and joins former Friar goaltenders Toby Burgdorf '21 and Tate Boyce '19. Bell, as a junior, led the Friars in scoring with 66 points on 21 goals and a team-best 45 assists.
JACK HORRIGAN EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Providence College men's lacrosse player Jack Horrigan was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season on Monday, March 17. Horrigan recorded a season-high five points on four goals and one assist for the Friars in Wednesday's game at Duke. The senior leads the team with 21 goals this season and ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.63). Horrigan is tied sixth all-time in career goals at Providence with 94.
RYAN BELL AND GREGG DENNISON EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL... Ryan Bell and Gregg Dennison each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Monday, March 10. Bell paced the Friars' offense with five points on three goals and two assists against Loyola (Md.), while Dennison led the team with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.
DAN DONAHUE EARNS BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Dan Donahue earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 24. It marked his third appearance of the season on the league's Weekly Honor Roll.
QUINN MCCONNAUGHEY AND RICHIE JOSEPH EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Quinn McConnaughey and Richie Joseph each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Feb. 17. McConnaughey was named Specialist of the Week, while Joseph was earned a spot on the leagues Weekly Honor Roll.
RYAN BELL AND DAN DONAHUE EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL ... Ryan Bell and Dan Donahue each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for the second-consecutive week on Monday, Feb. 10. The duo also earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Feb. 3 following Providence's season opener vs. Holy Cross.
RICHIE JOSEPH, RYAN BELL AND DAN DONAHUE EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Richie Joseph, Ryan Bell and Dan Donahue each earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Feb. 3, following the Friars' season-opening victory over Holy Cross. Joseph was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Bell and Donahue earned spots the league's Weekly Honor Roll.
RICHIE JOSEPH NAMED USA LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK... Following his career-high eight-goal performance against Holy Cross (Feb. 1), Richie Joseph was named USA Lacrosse Player of the Week on Feb. 4.
FRIARS DEFEATED BY DUKE... The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 6/8 Duke, 16-10, on Wednesday, March 12 in Durham, N.C. Jack Horrigan paced the Friars with five points on four goals and one assist. Freshman Chris Matia added three points on one goal and two assists. Dan Donahue recorded 13 saves and a .448 save percentage.
FRIARS DEFEATED LOYOLA... The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Loyola, 12-11, on Saturday, March 8 in Providence, R.I. Ryan Bell paced the Friars with five points on three goals and two assists. Jack Horrigan also added three goals for the Friars.
FRIARS DEFEATED BY NO. RV/18 FAIRFIELD... The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by then-ranked No. RV/18 Fairfield, 15-7, on Saturday, March 1 in Fairfield, Conn. Ryan Bell paced the Friars with three points on one goal and two assists. Jack Horrigan also added two goals for the Friars.
FRIARS DEFEAT MERRIMACK... The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Merrimack, 18-7, on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in North Andover, Mass. The Friars improved to 3-2 on the season. Ryan Bell and Jack Horrigan paced the Friars' offense. Bell recorded six points on two goals and four assists, followed by Horrigan with five points on four goals and one assist.
FRIARS FALL TO BROWN... The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Brown, 7-6, on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 2-2 on the season. Ryan Bell and Jack Horrigan paced Providence with three points each. Bell became the Friars' all-time leading scorer during the game, while Horrigan reached the 100-point milestone.
PROVIDENCE DEFEATED BY NO. 19/17 HARVARD... The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 19/17 Harvard, 12-10, on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Providence, R.I. It marked the Friars' first loss of the season and moved to 2-1 on the year. Richie Joseph recorded a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Jack Horrigan and Sam Brazell scored two goals each for the Friars. Quinn McConnaughey went 19-26 at the face-off 'X' and recorded 11 groundballs. Goalkeeper Dan Donahue recorded 12 saves and a .500 save percentage.
PROVIDENCE DEFEATS BRYANT... The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Bryant, 15-8, on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Smithfield, R.I. It marked the Friars first win over Bryant since 2020. Parker Kennedy scored a career-high three goals and Ryan Bell added a game-high seven points on one goal and six assists. Dan Donahue recorded 15 saves for the Friars and recorded a save percentage of .556. Albert Paniccia led the defense with five groundballs and two caused turnovers.
PROVIDENCE DEFEATS HOLY CROSS IN HOME OPENER... Providence defeated Holy Cross in its season opener, 15-8, on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Providence, R.I. Richie Joseph led the way with a career-high eight goals, followed by Ryan Bell who recorded a career-high eight assists. Dan Donahue recorded nine saves in his Providence College debut and recorded a save percentage of .643. Quinn McConnaughey went 14-for-18 from the face-off 'X' and picked up seven ground balls.
RYAN BELL AND RICHIE JOSEPH EARN PRESEASON ALL-NEW ENGLAND RECOGNITION... Two members of the Providence College men's lacrosse team were featured on the 2025 Division I Preseason NEILA All-New England Teams. Senior Ryan Bell was named to the First Team, while junior Richie Joseph received Second Team honors.
RYAN BELL NAMED USA LACROSSE PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION... Senior Ryan Bell was recognized by the USA Lacrosse Association as a 2025 Division I Preseason All-America Third Team selection. Bell, as a junior, led the Friars in scoring last year with 66 points on 21 goals and a team-best 45 assists. He finished the regular season ranked third among NCAA Division I players in assists per game, averaging 3.00. He was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, All-BIG EAST First Team, NEILA All-New England Second Team, USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American and USILA Honorable Mention All-American.
TWO FRIARS EARN PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST HONORS… Attackers Ryan Bell and Richie Joseph have been named to the 2025 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Bell also was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Bell and Joseph were two of eight unanimous selections. Last season, Bell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and earned First-Team All-BIG EAST honors, while Joseph was named to the Second Team.
RYAN BELL NAMED BIG EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR... Ryan Bell is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and fifth Friar to earn a major BIG EAST post-season award overall, joining 2017 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Jarrod Neumann and three players who earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year (Peter Badgley – 2015, Tate Boyce – 2017, 2019 and James Corasaniti – 2023).
MEET THE STAFF... Providence enters its third season under Head Coach Bobby Benson. In his first two season with the program, he helped the Friars claim a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament. Prior to Providence, Benson spent the two seasons at Maryland as the offensive coordinator during the Terps' run to the NCAA title in 2022. Maryland registered a 33-1 record during Benson's tenure, earned two Big Ten Championships and made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship game. Casey Brodersen, who spent 12 seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Bryant, was hired by Bobby Benson to serve as Associate Head Coach at Providence in 2023. He helped the Bulldogs to six NEC titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. Carroll Kennedy joined the Friars as an Assistant Coach in 2023. Kennedy worked alongside Benson at Maryland during the 2022 season and was previously named USILA Assistant Coach of the Year while at Limestone University in 2015. Shawn Ewert joined the staff for the 2024 season as an Assistant Coach. Before joining the Providence staff, Ewert spent the previous two seasons at Florida Southern, where he served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator. During his tenure, he helped guide Florida Southern to a 25-11 record.
KEY RETURNERS… The Friars are bringing back their top-three point scorers from last season. Ryan Bell returns for his senior season after finishing first on the team in assists (45). Bell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, All-BIG EAST First Team, NEILA All-New England Second Team, USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American and USILA Honorable Mention All-American. Junior, Richie Joseph will look to build off his success from 2024 after finishing the season ranked first on the team in goals (41) and second in points (53). He was recognized as an All-BIG EAST Second Team Selection and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Jack Horrigan will return for his senior year after finishing his 2024 season fourth on the team in scoring with 32 points on 26 goals and six assists.
Senior Gregg Dennison will anchor the Providence defense. Dennison started all 15 games for the Friars last season and recorded 10 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls.
WELCOME TO FRIARTOWN… The Friars welcomed 18 freshmen to the men's lacrosse program in the fall of 2024. Newcomers include Randolph Campbell (Richmond, Va.), Stone Evans (Hartford, Conn.), Ben Dale (Wheaton, Ill.), Sam Brazell (DeWitt, N.Y.), Jack Cooper (Southampton, N.Y.), Chris Matia (Alexandria, Va.), Jay Wilkerson (Baltimore, Md.), Patrick Mullin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Max Maurillo (Westport, Conn.), Jack Nicolette (Waxhaw, N.C.), Chris Jaskiewicz (Winter Park, Fla.), Sean Walsh (Hull, Mass.), Cam Sterritt (Brampton, Ontario), Matt Hayes (East Greenwich, R.I.), Ned Marshall (St. Louis, Mo.), Andy Scott (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Jack Bourget (Edina, Minn.) and Luke Fliss (Pittsford, N.Y.). Additionally, one transfer joined the Friars roster in the fall of 2024. Dan Donahue (Weston, Mass.), is a graduate transfer from Union College.
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH FOURTH IN BIG EAST PRESEASON POLL... Providence was picked to finish fourth in the 2025 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (15 points). Georgetown was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Denver (20 points) was second and Villanova (16 points) was selected third. Rounding out the conference standings was Marquette (seven points) and St. John's (seven points).
