Women’s Track Set To Compete At NCAA Indoor Track And Field Championships

Six Friars prepare for NCAA Indoor Championship in Virginia Beach.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College's indoor track student-athletes Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.), Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland), Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand), Alex Millard (Kent, England) and Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15. The Championships will be held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
Senior May and graduate student Flockhart will race in the 3,000 meters on Saturday, March 15, at 4 p.m. May is seeded eighth with a time of 8:44.73, while Flockhart is ninth at 8:45.67. Flockhart recorded her time at the Boston University Season Opener on Dec. 7, while May established her time at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. May's mark is both a personal best and a program record, while Flockhart's time ranks second in school history.
Graduate student Millard will compete in the 5,000 meters on Friday, March 14, at 4:42 p.m. The graduate student is the No. 10 seed with a time of 15:22.71, which she set at the Terrier Classic on Jan. 31. Her mark is the third fastest in program history.
The Distance Medley Relay team will be selected from the field of junior Fenerty, Flockhart, junior Laverty, May, Millard and sophomore O'Neill. The DMR is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. on Friday, March 14. Providence is seeded No. 12 after a 10:51.88 time at the Boston University DMR Challenge on Feb. 21.
