PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's basketball Head Coach
Erin Batth revealed her program's 2024-25 non-conference schedule on Thursday, Aug. 22. The non-conference schedule consists of one exhibition game and 13 regular-season matchups. The exhibition game and six regular-season games will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The squad also will play three games in Cancun, Mexico (Nov. 28-30) as part of the 2024 Cancun Challenge.
Fans will get their first look at the Friars' 2024-25 team on Oct. 29 when they host Southern Connecticut State University in an exhibition game at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The Owls compete at the NCAA Division II level in the highly competitive Northeast 10 Conference. SCSU posted a 19-13 overall record last season and advanced to the NE10 Championship game, where it fell to top-seeded Bentley, 64-49.
The regular-season schedule tips off on Nov. 4 at Alumni Hall against Mercy University. The Mavericks compete in NCAA Division II as part of the East Coast Conference. Mercy finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 20-10 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Bentley, 63-50, in the Regional Quarterfinal.
Providence remains home to face Ivy League power Columbia on Nov. 8. The Lions put together a 23-7 overall record last season and earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. Columbia was eliminated in the First Four by Vanderbilt (72-68).
The Friars hit the road for three-consecutive games against Vermont (Nov. 12), Boston College (Nov. 17) and Dayton (Nov. 21). The Vermont Catamounts of the America East Conference are coming off a 25-12 campaign and a run to the WNIT Semifinals in 2023-24. Boston College (ACC) and Dayton (A10) finished the 2023-24 campaign at 14-19 and 12-19, respectively.
On Nov. 24, Providence returns home to Alumni Hall to face Delaware. The Blue Hens, who compete in the CAA, finished last season with a 11-20 overall record.
The Friars will head to Cancun, Mexico to play three games in the 2024 Cancun Challenge against VCU (Nov. 28), Wisconsin (Nov. 29) and San Diego State (Nov. 30). The event is powered by Triple Crown Sports and will be played at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. VCU, a member of the Atlantic 10, put together a 26-6 record last season and was selected to play in the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT). Big Ten foe Wisconsin registered a 15-17 overall mark last season and advanced to the WNIT Quarterfinals. The San Diego State University Aztecs compiled a 22-13 overall record and advanced to the Mountain West Championship Game.
Providence returns to the Ocean State to take on intra-state rival Rhode Island on Dec. 4. The match-up will be played at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I. URI posted a 21-14 record a season ago and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship Game, where it fell to top-seeded Richmond, 65-51.
The Friars close out the non-conference schedule with three-straight home games at Alumni Hall against Brown (Dec. 7), Penn State (Dec. 11) and Merrimack (Dec. 14). Last season, Brown finished the year with a 16-11 mark. Big Ten foe Penn State compiled a 22-13 mark and advanced to the WBIT Semifinals. Merrimack, who competes in the Northeast Conference, posted a 12-19 record a year ago.
