Men’s Lacrosse Defeats #RV Villanova, 15-12, in BIG EAST Play

Ryan Bell recorded a career-high seven assists.

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated #RV Villanova, 15-12, in BIG EAST play on Saturday, April 6 in Villanova, Pa. The Friars improved to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova dropped to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST. Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) paced the Friars' offense with a career-high seven assists. Bell became Providence College's all-time career assists leader during game, with 107 career assists. He passed Matt Pymm' 99 who finished his career with 102.
  
1st Quarter: 

The Friars outscored Villanova, 4-2, in the first quarter.
-Villanova scored 59 seconds into the frame before Chris Cusolito (Melrose, Mass.) and Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) answered with a pair of goals to take the lead.
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals for the Friars. Bell earned assists on both the goals, making him Providence College's all-time assist leader, with 103. 
  
2nd Quarter: 

- Villanova used a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to one goal heading into halftime.
- Providence opened up the second quarter with two goals. Cusolito scored his second of the day and Quinn McConnaughey (Cohasset, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season to give Providence a four-goal lead. 
- Villanova ended Providence's scoring streak, but Joseph responded quickly with a goal off another feed from Bell.  
- The Wildcats closed out the half on a 3-0 run to make it 7-6.
- McConnaughey went 8-14 at the faceoff X in the first half.
- James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) made eight saves in the first half.

3rd Quarter: 
- The Friars went on a 4-0 run to help them take the 13-8 lead. 
- The two teams exchanged a pair of goals to start the third quarter. Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass.) and Albert Paniccia (East Norwich, N.Y.) were responsible for the Friars' goals.
- Joseph, Horrigan, Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Jaber scored consecutive goals to close the frame, giving Providence the five-goal advantage.
- Providence went 6-9 at the X in the third quarter.
 
 
4th Quarter    
- The Friars held onto their lead, winning 15-12.
- Cusolito scored his third goal of the game to extend the Friars scoring streak to five, but the Wildcats responded less than a minute later with a goal. 
- Corasiniti scored his first career goal to give Providence a 15-9 lead.
-  Villanova scored 8:28 left in regulation.
- The Wildcats scored two goals in the final minute of the game to cut the score to 15-12.
 
 
Notes:    
- Bell's assist at 2:42 in the first quarter made him the programs all-time assist leader. He passed Matt Pymm '99 who had 102 career assists. 
- Bell had a career-high seven assists.
- Joseph had a team-high four goals, which marked his sixth hattrick of the season. He remains the only player on the Friars' roster to have scored a goal in each of the team's 11 games.
- Cusolito recorded three goals which marked his fifth hattrick of the season.
- Corasaniti had a season-high 17 saves and scored his first career goal.
- McConnaughey went 19-31 at the X.
 
What's Next: The Friars travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Marquette. Faceoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.
