QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated St. John's, 16-13, in the regular-season finale on Friday, April 26, to earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship.
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) paced the Friars' offense with a career-high eight points on three goals and a career-best five assists. The Friars will face the No. 2 seed Georgetown on Thursday, May 2 at 8:30 p.m. in Villanova, Pa. in the BIG EAST Semifinals.
1st Quarter:
- The game was tied at 3-3 after the first quarter.
- The two teams exchanged goals to start the frame.
Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass.) scored the first goal for the Friars.

Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Albert Pannicia (East Norwich, N.Y.) were responsible for the final two goals of the quarter.
- Providence held a 3-2 lead before St. John's tied the game with 27-seconds left on the clock.
- The Red Storm led in shots (11-8), shots on goal (8-6), groundballs (9-7) and faceoffs won (4-3) in the opening 15 minutes.
2nd Quarter:
- Providence outscored St. John's, 4-3, in the second quarter to take the 7-6 lead at halftime.

Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter to give the Friars a two-goal lead (5-3).
- Joseph scored his first goal of the game off a feed from Bell to extend the Friars run to 3-0, giving Providence a 6-3 edge.
- St. John's went on a 3-1 run to end the quarter and get the game within a goal (7-6). Joseph scored the lone goal for the Friars in the closing stretch.

James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) had six saves at halftime.
3rd Quarter:
- The Friars used a 5-1 run to take a 12-7 lead with 1:24 left in the quarter.
- Horrigan, Joseph and
Patrick McAleavey (Trumbull, Conn.) registered three-straight goals for the Friars.
- St. John's got on the board at the 8:14 mark to make it a 10-7 game, but Horrigan and
Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.) scored back-to-back for a 12-7 Providence advantage.
- The Red Storm scored with 55-seconds remaining to get within four (12-8) heading into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
- Bell scored three goals in the fourth quarter to help Providence win, 16-13.
- The Red Storm scored 31 seconds into the fourth quarter before Bell answered with back-to-back goals.
- St. John's outscored Providence 5-4 in the fourth quarter, but only got as close as three.
Notes:
- Bell recorded seven points on four goals and three assists. His three assists gives him a total of 42 for the year, tying Kyle Ojakian's mark set in 2002.
- Bell also tied the single-season points record (63) with his seven points vs. St. John's. Ojakian also set that single-season record in 2002.
- Joseph had a team-high eight points on three goals and five assists. It marked his career-high in assists and points.
- Horrigan recorded four goals, which marked his fourth hattrick of the season.
- Corasaniti finished the night with nine saves.
- Providence went 14-32 at the face-off X.
What's Next: The Friars will travel to Villanova, Pa. to face No. 2 seed Georgetown in the Semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The game will be played on Thursday, May 2 at 8:30 p.m. The match-up will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
