PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Merrimack, 17-10, on Tuesday, March 5 in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 3-3 on the year, while Merrimack dropped to 2-5.
Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) paced the Friars' offense with eight points on six assists and two goals. Bell's six assists marked a career high.
1st Quarter:
- Merrimack outscored Providence 4-3 in the first quarter.
- The Warriors started the first quarter with back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead with 12:55 remaining on the clock.
- Providence answered with three-straight goals to take its first lead of the game.
Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) scored two of the three goals and
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied one.
- Merrimack closed out the quarter with two goals to regain the lead at 4-3.
- The Friars went 5-of-7 at the faceoff X.
2nd Quarter:
- Providence outscored Merrimack, 4-2, in the second quarter to take a 7-6 lead at halftime.
- The Warriors started the scoring in the frame before Providence rattled off four-straight goals.
- Horrigan scored back-to-back goals in under a minute to tie the game, 5-5. Bell and
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) each earned assists.
- Bell scored back-to-back goals to give the Friars a 7-5 lead and extend their run to 4-0.
- Merrimack scored with 2:07 remaining in the half to cut the score to 7-6.
- Horrigan tied his career high in goals (four) through the first two quarters.
3rd Quarter:
- Providence outscored Merrimack, 4-3, in the third quarter.
- Joseph scored the first goal of the second half and his second goal of the game off a feed from Bell.

Grant Latimer (Topsfield, Mass.) scored off an assist from goalie, James Corsaniti (New York, N.Y.). It marked Latimer's first career goal and Corasaniti's third career assist.
- The Warriors scored three-straight goals to tie the game, 9-9.
- Horrigan and Chambers scored back-to-back goals to close out the quarter and give the Friars an 11-9 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
- The Friars went 7-8 from the X in the third quarter.
4th Quarter
- The Friars dominated the fourth quarter outscoring Merrimack, 6-1.
- The Warriors scored the first goal of the quarter to make cut the deficit to 11-10.
- The Friars went on a 6-0 run to close out the game.
Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass) scored two goals in the run and
Tom Fegley (Easton, Pa.) scored his first career goal.
Patrick McAleavey (Trumbull, Conn.), Chambers and Horrigan accounted for the other three goals.
- Providence outshot Merrimack, 14-9, in the final quarter.
Notes:
- Horrigan scored a career-high six goals.
- Bell had a career-high six assists. His six assists move him into third place on the Friars all-time career assist list, with 94. He is currently tied with Brenden Ryan '07.
- Latimer and Fegley each scored their first career goals.
- Joseph recorded two goals and two assists. Joseph is the only player on the team to score in each of the Friars six games this season.
- Corasaniti made 14 saves in the game.
- Providence went 22-31 from the X.
What's Next: The Friars travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. to face Stony Brook on Saturday, March 9. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
