Women's Hoops Concludes Season With 54-41 Loss To Colgate In WNIT Second Round

Brynn Farrell paced the Friars with nine points; Marta Morales Romero recorded eight points and seven boards.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team (13-21) concluded its season with a 54-41 loss to Colgate in the WNIT Second Round on March 25 in Providence, R.I. The Raiders (20-13) advance to the Round of 16 and will face Vermont.
 
1ST QUARTER:
Grace Efosa scored the first bucket of the game off the tip before Colgate scored six-straight during a two-minute span (6-2).
Brynn Farrell drilled a three from the right wing to end a three-minute scoring drought and give the Friars a 9-6 lead (1:34).
• Colgate closed the quarter with four-unanswered points to take a 10-9 lead at the intermission.
 
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence gained a 17-16 advantage with 3:59 on the clock on back-to-back buckets by Emily Archibald and Sophi Hall.
• Colgate answered with five-straight points, all from Taylor Golembiewski, to give the Raiders a 21-17 edge with 2:51 on the clock.
• The Friars tied the score (21-21) with the help of four-straight points from Ugne Sirtautaite.
• Colgate took a 24-21 lead into halftime.
• Both teams shot 9-26 from the field in the first half (.346). Colgate gained the three-point edge on the scoreboard from the free throw line, hitting 5-5 attempts. Providence was 2-5 at the foul line in the first half.
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Colgate started the third with four-straight points to get out to a 28-21 lead (7:37).
Marta Morales Romero knocked down a three from the top of the key (28-24) with 6:23 on the clock.
• It sparked a 7-2 run to get Providence within two (30-28) at the 4:56 mark.
• Providence went scoreless for nearly three minutes as Colgate extended its lead to 34-28.
Brynn Farrell halted the drought at the 2:14 mark with a pair of free throws (34-30).
• Providence was held without a field goal over the final 6:05 of the quarter.
• Colgate took a 38-30 lead into the fourth.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Morales Romero converted a three on the Friars' first possession of the quarter (9:53) to cut the deficit to five (38-33).
• Providence cut the deficit to five, but Colgate answered with a 8-0 run to get the lead into double figures.
• Colgate extended the run to 14-4 to go ahead 54-39.
• The Raiders went on to claim a 54-41 victory.
 
NOTES:
• Farrell finished with a team-best nine points.
• Morales Romero recorded eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Efosa joined Morales Romero for the team lead in rebounds (seven).
Emily Archibald collected a career-high five steals and added four points, five rebounds and three assists.
• The Friars were without All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection Olivia Olsen for the game due to injury. Olsen was the top scorer and rebounder on the squad at 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
• Providence shot just 28.6-percent from the field (14-49), while Colgate finished the night at 38.9-percent (21-54).
