PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Saint Joseph's, 13-12, in overtime on Saturday, March 23 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 4-5 on the season, while the Hawks improved to 5-3.
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Chris Cusolito (Melrose, Mass.) paced the Friars' offense with five points apiece.
Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) recorded three assists on the day and making him the second Friar in program history to record 100 career assists.
1st Quarter:
- Each team scored three goals in the first quarter.
- The Hawks scored under a minute into the game before the Friars scored three-straight goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Ian Olenik (Windham, N.H.) scored his first goal of the season and Joseph scored the next two goals.
- Saint Joseph's scored back-to-back goals to end the quarter.

James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) made four saves in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter:
- Saint Joseph's outscored Providence, 4-2, in the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead in the game.
- Each team exchanged goals to start the quarter. Providence's
Albert Paniccia (East Norwich, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season.
- The Hawks went on a 3-0 run to take the 7-4 lead.
- Cusolito scored the final goal of the half off a feed from Bell to make it 7-5.
- The Hawks led in in shots (28-15), shots on goal (14-6), groundballs (14-8) and faceoffs won (12-2) at the half.
3rd Quarter:
- The Friars outscored the Hawks in the third quarter, 4-3.
- The teams exchanged goals to start the third quarter. Joseph scored for Providence to register his fourth hattrick of the season.
- The Friars went on a 3-1 run to tie the game at 9-9.
Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass.), Joseph and Cusolito each accounted for a goal.
- The Hawks scored with 1:35 left in the quarter to take back the 10-9 lead.
4th Quarter
- The Friars outscored the Hawks 3-2 in the quarter.
- Providence started the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals to take an 11-10 lead. Jaber and
Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) were responsible for the goals.
- Cusolito scored his third goal of the game with 1:32 left in the quarter to give the Friars a two-goal lead. It marked his fourth hattrick of the season.
- The Hawks scored back-to-back goals to end the fourth quarter and force overtime.
Overtime
- Saint Joseph's scored with 28 seconds left in overtime to win, 13-12.
Notes:
- Bell's assist at the 14:39 minute mark in the fourth quarter, marked 100 for his career. He is the second Friar to record 100 assists in program history joining Matt Pymm '99 who recorded 102.
- Joseph had a team-high four goals, which marked his fourth hattrick of the season. Joseph is the only Friar to score a goal in each of the teams nine games this season.
- Cusoltio recorded his fourth hatrick of the season.
- Corasaniti made a season-high 14 saves.
