Women's Hoops Loses Heartbreaker To Seton Hall, 71-65

Grace Efosa paced three Friars in double figures with 17 points.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Seton Hall in BIG EAST play, 71-65, on Feb. 28 at Alumni Hall. The Friars moved to 12-18 overall (6-11 BIG EAST), while Seton Hall improved to 16-12 (8-9 BIG EAST). The two teams split the season series, with each squad claiming a win on the road.
 
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars hit their first five shot attempts to earn a 12-7 lead at the 6:33 mark.
• Providence led 13-9 at the media timeout (4:51).
• Seton Hall took its first lead of the game (16-15) on a Micah White lay-in at the 3:19 mark.
Grace Efosa answered with a baseline triple on the other end to help the Friars regain the lead (18-16).
• Seton Hall closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 21-18 lead at the break.
• Providence finished the quarter 7-12 from the field (.583).
 
2ND QUARTER:
• The Pirates extended their run into the second quarter (8-0) to claim a 24-18 advantage.
Nariah Scott knocked down a fade-away jumper in the paint, sparking a 4-0 spurt to close the deficit to 24-22 at the 7:49 mark.
• Seton Hall outscored Providence 8-2 during a span of 3:01 to push its lead to 32-24 at the media timeout (4:48).
Kendall Eddy ended a four-minute scoring drought with back-to-back buckets and Efosa added a triple from the left wing to force a Seton Hall timeout with 2:07 to play. 
• The Friars extended their run to 9-1 to finish the second quarter and tie the game, 33-33, at halftime.
• Efosa led all scorers with 10 points and Brynn Farrell added eight points. The duo combined to shoot 7-12 from the floor (.583), including 4-6 from three-point land (.667).
 
3RD QUARTER:
• Seton Hall held a 41-38 lead at the media timeout with 4:33 on the clock.
• Farrell scored eight-straight points for the Friars and Scott added a triple to force a Seton Hall timeout. 
• The 11-3 run took just 2:14 and gave the Friars a 49-46 lead with 1:47 on the clock.
• The Friars held a 50-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.
 
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence held a 60-58 lead at the final media timeout (4:49). 
• Efosa had seven of the Friars' 10 points through the first five minutes of the quarter.
• The Friars claimed the largest lead of either team in the quarter (three) with 3:03 left in the game, as Marta Morales Romero converted a traditional three-point play (65-62).
• A 7-0 run gave the Pirates a 69-65 lead with 30.9-seconds to play in regulation.
• The Friars called timeout to advance the ball. 
• Providence got two looks at a three before Seton Hall collected the defensive board and got fouled with 17.2-seconds on the clock.
• Amari Wright converted both free-throw attempts to help the Pirates close out the 71-65 victory.
 
 
NOTES:
• Efosa paced three scorers in double figures with 17 points. 
• Farrell added 16 points, three rebounds and four assists.
• Morales Romero added 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Olivia Olsen led the Friars in rebounding (nine) and added six points, two assists and one steal. It marked just the second time this season Olsen has been held to single digits in the scoring column during BIG EAST regular-season play.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will conclude the regular-season schedule on Saturday, March 2 against No. 10/10 Connecticut. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. 
• The Friars will honor three student-athletes and one graduate assistant prior to the game on Saturday: Grace Efosa, Brynn Farrell, Laryn Edwards and Jaylan Brout (graduate assistant/staff).
