Men's Lacrosse Suffers 15-13 Loss In Home Opener Against Bryant

Richie Joseph paced the Friars with a career-high four goals and six points.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Bryant, 15-13, on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Providence, R.I. Richie Joseph paced the Friars with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. 

1st Quarter: 

·      Luke Jaber got the scoring started for the Friars eight minutes into the game. Richie Joseph earned the assist on the goal.

·      Bryant responded with a goal to tie the score at 1-1 with 4:25 remaining in the quarter.

·      Ryan Bell scored off an assist from Michael Chabra to regain the lead.

·      The Bulldogs scored nine seconds later to tie the game at 2-2 going into the second quarter.

 


2nd Quarter: 

·      Michael Chabra scored his first goal of the year to give the Friars a 3-2 lead. Jaber was credited with the assist.

·      Bryant responded quickly to tie the game at 3-3.

·      Joseph answered for the Friars off a feed from Bell to give PC a 4-3 lead.

·      Bryant scored three-straight goals to claim a 6-4 lead and force a Providence timeout.

·      The Bulldogs maintained their 6-4 advantage into halftime.

 
3rd Quarter: 

·      Bryant scored a minute into the quarter to take a three-goal lead (7-4).

·      Chris Cusolito scored his first goal of the year to make it a 7-5 game.

·      Bryant responded with four goals to push its lead to six (11-5).

·      Joseph scored his second goal of the day to close the quarter and help Providence cut the deficit to five heading into the final 15 minutes.

4th Quarter 

·      The Bulldogs opened up the quarter with a quick goal to extend their lead to 12-6.

·      The Friars scored six of the game's next seven goals to get within one with 5:39 to play (13-12). 

·      Joseph and Cusolito each scored two goals in the spurt, while Chabra and Bell scored one goal each.

·      With 4:50 remaining on the clock, Bryant scored to go ahead by two. 

      ·      Bell answered for the Friars to trim the deficit back down to one (14-13) with 3:22 to play.

·      Bryant scored with 16 second left to close out the game and take the 15-13 win.
 

Notes: 

·      Four Friars had four or more points: Richie Joseph (6), Ryan Bell (5), Michael Chabra (4) and Chris Cusolito (4).

·     Bell's five points in the game move him into 18th place on the Friars' all-time scoring list (116). He now has 38 goals and 78 assists in his career.

·      Joseph's recorded career highs in points (six) and goals (four).

·      Bryant outshot Providence, 53-30.

·      The Bulldogs dominated the X, winning 21 of 32 opportunities.

·      James Corasaniti finished the game with eight saves for Providence.
