PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College junior forward
Olivia Olsen was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Jan. 8. It marks her third appearance on the honor roll this season, having previously been recognized on Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.
Olsen averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game last week. She also shot 50-percent from the field, hitting 12 of her 24 shot attempts. On Jan. 3, Olsen recorded 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in a 72-65 win over DePaul. The victory snapped a 23-game winless streak to the Blue Demons, marking the first time Providence defeated DePaul since Jan. 7, 2012. Olsen closed the week 12 points and 10 boards against St. John's on Jan. 6. It marked her sixth double-double of the season and 10
th of her career.
Olsen has recorded a double-double in four of the last five games for Providence, including two of three BIG EAST games. At the midway point of the season, Olsen leads the team in scoring (14.7 points), rebounding (8.7 rpg), blocked shots (1.9 bpg) and field-goal percentage (.574).
Additionally, she is one of just three players averaging a double-double during BIG EAST regular-season action with 13.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. UConn's Aaliyah Edwards (16.3pt/10.3reb) and Georgetown's Graceann Bennett (11.3pt/10.3reb) round out that exclusive list.
Providence (8-8, 2-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 against No. 12/15 Connecticut at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. on SNY.
