Providence, R.I. - Providence College volleyball defeated Bryant in five sets (3-2) on Saturday, September 9 in Providence, R.I. The Friars went 3-0 on the weekend to improve to 5-4. With the win over the Bryant Bulldogs, the Friars captured the 2023 Friar Classic.  Shahiyah Rhoden received Tournament MVP and

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Bryant won set one, 25-20.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the set to make it 9-9.Â
- The Bulldogs scored three unanswered points to take the 13-10 lead.
- Bryant went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 18-12 causing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars then went on a 4-1 run to cut the score to 19-16.
- The Bulldogs controlled the lead the rest of the set winning, 25-20.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars took set two, 25-21.Â
- Bryant started the second set with a 7-5 lead.Â
- The Friars went on a 7-2 run in the middle of the set to take 13-12 lead forcing a Bryant timeout.Â
- The Friars held onto the lead for the remainder of the set to win 25-21.

Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) recorded five kills in the second set.Â

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Friars won the third set, 25-23, to take the 2-1 lead in the match.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the set making it 5-5.
- The Bulldogs scored four unanswered points to take a 10-6 lead.Â
- The Friars then went on an 8-0 run to go up 14-10 in the set.Â
- Brant went on a 7-2 run to tie the set at 21-21.Â
- Providence closed out the set winning, 25-23

FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Bryant wins set four to force a fifth set.
- The Friars got off to a quick start taking a 6-4 lead.Â
- Providence extended their lead to 13-9 causing Bryant to call a timeout.Â
- The Bulldogs scored five unanswered points to take the 16-15 lead.Â
- The two teams continued to go back-and-forth to make it a tie at 21-21.
- Bryant closed out the set and won.
- Rhoden registered six kills in the fourth set.

FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Friars won the fifth set to take the match.
- Providence got off to a quick 5-0 lead.Â
- Bryant went on a 4-1 run to make it 6-4.
- The Friars went on to score four unanswered points making it 10-4.
- Providence controlled the rest of the set winning, 15-7.

The Providence College Volleyball Team will be on the road next weekend for the Boston College / Harvard Tournament in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Friars will face off against Boston College on Friday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. and will play Merrimack at 4:00 p.m. Providence will play again Saturday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. against Harvard.Â
