Volleyball Set To Play In The Boston College / Harvard Tournament

The Friars first math is set for Friday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m. against Boston College.

 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to compete in the Boston College / Harvard Tournament. The Friars open the Tournament on Sept. 15 with two games. TheFriars' first game is set for 1:00 p.m. against Boston College. The Friars will face Merrimack at 4:00 p.m. later that day. The Friars close out the tournament on Saturday, September 16 against Harvard at 7:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars enter the Tournament with a 5-4 record. Most recently, the Friars won the Friar Classic where they went 3-0 on the weekend with wins over Bryant, Central Connecticut and Saint Peter's. Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) earned tournament MVP and Savannah Ivie (Frisco, Texas) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. 
 
Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) and Rhoden both lead the Friars offense with 100 kills each. This past weekend Rhoden notched 40 kills in three matches hitting .540. Taylor recorded 35 kills and added another 23 digs. 
 
Ivie leads the Friars' defense with 140 digs. The freshman currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in digs per a set, averaging 3.89. 
 
Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) leads the Friars in blocks, with 36. 
 
As a team, Providence ranks first in service aces per a set in the BIG EAST. Sammie Ruggles (North Olmsted, Ohio) and Jiji Lykins (Coal Springs, Florida) occupy the number one and two spot for most service aces. Ruggles has registered 21 while Lykins has tallied 16. 
 
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE:
Boston College enters the tournament with a 7-3 record. The Eagles most recently went 4-0 in the Iona Classic winning all four matches in three sets.
 
Senior Alayna Crabtree leads the Eagles' offense in kills with 86. She is followed by freshman Halle Schroder who has registered 79 kills.
 
Senior Anna Murphy leads the Eagles' defense with 169 digs, averaging 5.12 a set. 
 
Junior Julia Haggerty has a team-high 37 blocks. 
 
 
SCOUTING MERRIMACK: 
Merrimack enters the tournament with a record of 1-6. The Warriors most recently participated in the UConn Invite, where they fell to Lehigh, Hofstra and Uconn. 
 
Junior Julz Carlat leads Merrimack's offense with 72 kills. 
 
Sophomore Cate Wright has a team high 57 digs and she has registered 67 kills. 
 
As a team Merrimack has 232 kills and 240 digs.
 
 
SCOUTING HARVARD: 
Harvard enters the weekend with a 5-1 record. This past weekend they went 2-0 at the CSU Invitational where they beat Cleveland State and Bucknell University. 
 
Katie Vorhies and Ashley Wang lead the Crimson offense with 57 kills apiece. 
 
Junior Lindsey Zhang has a team high, 89 digs, averaging 3.87 digs per a set. 
 
Ariana White leads Harvard in blocks, with 21.
 
WHATS NEXT:
The Friars are set to open BIG EAST play in South Orange, N.J. where they will face Seton Hall Friday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 23 the Friars will travel to Queens, N.Y. where they will face St. Johns at 5:00p.m.
