Volleyball Defeats Seton Hall In Five Sets, 3-2

The Friars return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m. against St. John’s


SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Providence College volleyball team (11-13, 2-9 BIG EAST) defeated Seton Hall University (6-16, 0-11 BIG EAST) in five sets on Friday, Oct. 31 in BIG EAST action.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-17 victory in the first set.
  • Providence came out strong with an 11-7 lead.
  • A kill by freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) extended the Friars' lead to 19-13.
  • Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a kill to secure the set for PC (25-17).
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall won the second set, 25-23.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth before the set was tied, 13-13, at the midway point.
  • Seton Hall took the lead at 20-17, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • An ace by junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) tied the set again at 23-23.
  • Seton Hall scored back-to-back points to secure the win (25-23).
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the third set, 25-21.
  • Providence came out strong with a 12-7 lead.
  • The Pirates called a timeout after redshirt freshman Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) extended the Friars' lead to 20-13.
  • Kocon had a kill to secure the third set for PC, 25-21.
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall earned a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.
  • Seton Hall started the set on a  6-1 scoring run, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • An ace by Kocon narrowed the Pirates' lead to 16-14.
  • Providence tied the set at 17-17, prompting a Seton Hall timeout.
  • The Pirates went on an 8-2 run to win the fourth set, 25-19.
 
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the set, and the match, 3-2.
  • Providence jumped out to an 8-5 advantage.
  • A kill by Adkins advanced the Friars' lead to 11-7.
  • Providence maintained its lead to win the set, 15-11 and the match, 3-2.
 
MATCH NOTES: 
  • Adkins, Taylor, and Kocon each recorded a double-double. Adkins had a team-high 15 kills and 12 digs. Kocon notched 13 kills and 24 assists. Taylor tallied 10 kills and 13 digs.
  • Junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) recorded eight blocks.
  • Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 17 digs.
  • The Friars notched 55 kills, 12 aces, 12 blocks and 59 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Queens N.Y. to face St. John's at 3:00 p.m.
