PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (10-10, 1-6 BIG EAST) fell to Villanova University during BIG EAST action (14-4, 5-2 BIG EAST) in four sets (3-1) on Friday, Oct. 17.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova earned a 25-21 victory in the first set.
- Villanova came out strong with an 11-7 lead.
- The Wildcats extended their lead to 17-14, forcing a Providence timeout.
- Providence called another timeout after Villanova took a 21-17 advantage.
- The Wildcats maintained their lead to earn a 25-21 victory.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 25-16.
- The two teams went back-and-forth and were tied, 12-12, at the midway point.
- Providence took a 16-13 lead, forcing a Villanova timeout.
- The Wildcats called another timeout after a kill by junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) extended the Friars' lead to 19-13.
- Taylor had a kill to secure the set for PC, 25-16.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova won the set, 25-19.
- Villanova jumped out to an 8-3 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Wildcats extended their lead to 16-11, prompting a second Friars timeout.
- Villanova maintained its lead to win the set, 25-19.
- Freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) led the Friars with nine kills through set three.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova won the set, and the match 3-1.
- Villanova came out quick with a 7-4 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars took another timeout after the Wildcats extended their lead to 17-11.
- Villanova maintained its lead to win the set, 25-17, and the match 3-1.
MATCH NOTES:
- Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Friars with 11 kills.
- Junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) hit .600 with 10 kills and recorded 5 blocks.
- Sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) recorded a double-double, with 23 assists and 14 digs.
- The Friars notched 49 kills, 11 blocks and 48 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4:00 p.m. to face Georgetown.
