Volleyball Defeats Butler, 3-1

The Friars return to action on Friday, Nov. 14 at 5:00 p.m. at Georgetown.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (12-15, 3-11 BIG EAST) defeated BIG EAST foe Butler University (12-15, 5-9 BIG EAST) in four sets (3-1) on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Providence, R.I.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-19 victory in the first set.
  • Providence came out strong with a 12-7 lead.
  • The Friars extended their lead to 19-13, prompting a Bulldogs timeout.
  • A kill by freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) secured the set for PC, 25-19.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the second set, 27-25.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth before the set was tied, 12-12, at the midway point.
  • A kill by junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) put the Friars ahead 17-13, forcing a Bulldogs timeout.
  • Butler came back and tied the set, 23-23.
  • Providence outscored Butler 4-2 to close out the set, 27-25.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Butler won the third set, 25-23.
  • The two teams traded points early, tying the set at 13-13.
  • Butler took the lead at 17-16, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead to 23-17, prompting a second Friars timeout.
  • Butler maintained its lead to win the set, 25-23.
 
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the set, and the match, 3-1.
  • Butler came out quick with an 11-6 lead and forced a Providence timeout.
  • The Friars took a second timeout after the Bulldogs extended their lead to 17-12.
  • Junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) and Otter combined for a block to tie the set (19-19).
  • Butler called a timeout after Providence took the lead (24-22).
  • A kill by sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) secured the set for PC, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.
 
MATCH NOTES:
  • Junior Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas), Taylor and Adkins each had a double-double. McDonald recorded 26 assists and 14 digs. Taylor tallied 16 kills and 12 digs. Adkins had a team-high 24 kills and 11 digs.
  • Otter hit .300 with nine kills and four blocks.
  • Redshirt-senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 17 digs.
  • The Friars notched 62 kills, 10 blocks and 70 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team is on the road next weekend for two BIG EAST matches to close out the regular season. The Friars face Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 14 at 5:00 p.m. in Washington D.C., followed by Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m. in Villanova, Pa.
