PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (11-15, 2-11 BIG EAST) fell to Xavier University (23-2, 12-1 BIG EAST) in straight sets (3-0) on Friday, Nov. 7 during BIG EAST action.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier earned a 25-20 victory in the first set.
- Xavier came out strong with a 10-7 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars called another timeout after the Musketeers advanced their lead to 16-11.
- Xavier maintained its lead to win the set, 25-20.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won the second set 25-15.
- The two teams played evenly to start the set and were tied at the midway point, 10-10.
- Xavier went on a 3-0 run, prompting a Providence timeout (13-10).
- The Musketeers extended their lead to 18-14, forcing a second Friars timeout.
- Xavier maintained its lead to win the set, 25-15.
- Junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) led the Friars with four kills through set two.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Xavier won the set, and the match 3-0.
- The two teams went back-and-forth, tying the set at 11-11.
- Xavier took the lead at 21-17.
- An ace by Taylor narrowed the Musketeer's lead to 22-21.
- Xavier went on a 3-0 run to win the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Friars with eight kills and five digs.
- Freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) tallied six kills and a team-high three blocks.
- The Friars notched 28 kills, eight blocks and 31 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. The program will honor its senior class prior to the match.
