Volleyball Falls To No. 13 Creighton, 3-0

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2:00 p.m. against Connecticut.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team (10-12, 1-8 BIG EAST) fell to 13th-ranked Creighton University (16-5, 9-0 BIG EAST) in straight sets (3-0) during BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 24 in Providence, R.I.
 
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Creighton earned a 25-21 victory in the first set.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth before the set was tied, 12-12, at the midway point.
  • Creighton took the lead at 19-18 and forced Providence to call a timeout.
  • The Friars called another timeout after the Bluejays extended their lead to 23-20.
  • Creighton went on to win the set, 25-21.
 
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Creighton won the second set, 25-18.
  • Creighton came out strong with an 11-8 lead.
  • The Bluejays extended their lead to 18-11, prompting Providence to call its second timeout of the set.
  • Creighton maintained its lead to win the set, 25-18.
  • Sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) led the Friars' offense with four kills through the second set.
 
THIRD SET HIGHLGHTS: Creighton won the set, and the match 3-0.
  • The two teams played evenly to open the third set. At the midway point the set was tied, 11-11.
  • A kill by sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave Providence a 15-12 advantage, prompting a Creighton timeout.
  • The Bluejays narrowed PC's lead to 23-21 and Providence called a  timeout.
  • Creighton went on a 6-2 run to win the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-0.

MATCH NOTES:

  • Kocon and Adkins led the Friars with seven kills each.
  • Freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) recorded four blocks.
  • Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 15 digs.
  • The Friars notched 32 kills, five blocks and 36 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will face BIG EAST foe Connecticut on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
