Men’s Lacrosse Drops Match To No. 10/12 Georgetown

Jack Horrigan and Michael Chabra each scored four goals.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 10/12 Georgetown University, 13-11, on Saturday, Apr. 8. The Friars dropped to 5-6 overall (1-1 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 6-3 (2-0 BIG EAST).
 
1st Quarter:
  • Providence came out of the gate strong, scoring three goals in the first nine minutes of play.
  • John Hoffman put the Friars on the board at 14:41, scoring on an empty net from behind the midfield line, off the assist from James Corasaniti.
  • Georgetown followed with two goals to take an early 2-1 lead.
  • Michael Chabra responded with back-to-back goals at 11:09 and 06:45. Chabra scored his second goal off the feed from Ryan Bell.
  • The Hoyas kept Providence scoreless for the remainder of the first frame while scoring three goals for the 5-3 lead.
  • Georgetown led Providence in shots (17-5), ground balls (19-6) and went 8-for-9 on the face-off.

2nd Quarter:
  • The Hoyas outscored the Friars 4-1 to extend their lead to 9-4 at the end of the half.
  • Georgetown's four-goal quarter was broken up at the 10:22 mark, when Jack Horrigan scored the lone goal of the quarter for Providence off an assist from Bell (7-4).
  • Goalkeeper Corasaniti kept the Friars within striking distance with 13 saves throughout the half.
 
3rd Quarter:
  • After the Hoyas scored two goals to open the quarter (11-4), Providence responded by scoring four of the next five goals.
  • Horrigan and Chabra scored back-to-back goals at 09:26 and 08:53, respectively, to get the Friars back within five (11-6).
  • After scoring at 11:31 to extend their lead to 12-6, the Hoyas were held scoreless throughout the remaining 11 minutes of the quarter.
  • Horrigan struck again, scoring at 06:15, with the help of Bell (12-7).
  • Chabra followed, scoring his fifth goal of the day with 01:14 remaining. He was also assisted by Bell.
  • The Friars won 4-7 face-off opportunities of the third.
 
4th Quarter:
  • The Friars continued their late-game push into the fourth, outscoring the Hoyas 3-1.
  • Georgetown scored the first goal of the fourth to take a 13-8 advantage.
  • Bell got his name in the scoring column at 05:52, starting a three-goal run for Providence.
  • Horrigan scored a man-up goal after converting on his third assist of the day from Bell (13-10).
  • Bell scored with 04:46 remaining to put the Friars within two, but the late-game push by Providence wasn't enough to overcome the Hoya lead (13-11).

Notes:
  • Horrigan and Chabra each scored four goals, marking their fifth and sixth hat tricks of the season, respectively.
  • Bell recorded a game-high seven points, tying his career-high five assists and adding two goals.
  • Corasaniti made a career-high 23 saves, recording a .639 save percentage.
