Providence, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 13 Villanova, 20-8, on Saturday, Apr. 15 at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 5-7 overall (1-2 BIG EAST) in the 2023 season while the Wildcats improved to 8-3 (2-1 BIG EAST).
1st Quarter:
- Villanova scored the first five goals of the game.
- John Hoffman put the Friars on the board at the 3:29 mark.
- Jack Horrigan followed suit just 10-seconds later (3:19) and was assisted by Ryan Bell.
- Villanova held a 5-2 lead over Providence at the break.
- Villanova outshot Providence 14-9 and led in groundballs, 14-2.
- James Corasaniti recorded eight saves in goal for Providence.
2nd Quarter:
- Villanova scored an early second-quarter goal for the 6-2 lead.
- Patrick McAleavey netted the first Friar goal of the quarter at the 10:41 mark off an assist from Will Ferraro (6-3).
- After another Wildcat goal, Ian Olenik scored directly off the face-off, marking his first career-goal at 9:57 (7-4).
- Hoffman halted a three-goal run by Villanova with a man-up goal off a feed from Bell with 7:42 remaining (10-5).
- Horrigan and Michael Chabra scored back-to-back goals for Providence at the 7:02 and 5:08 marks, respectively. Bell recorded his third assist of the day and Richie Joseph recorded his first point of the afternoon with an assist on Chabra's goal.
- Villanova was able to mount a 12-7 advantage over Providence heading into halftime.
- The Friars led in groundballs (10-9), while the Wildcats outshot Providence 10-7 in the second quarter.
3rd Quarter:
- Villanova outscored Providence 5-1 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 17-8.
- Joseph scored the lone goal for Providence on a man-up conversion at the 9:10 mark and was assisted by Bell (13-8).
4th Quarter:
- The Wildcats had three unanswered goals to claim the 20-8 victory.
Notes:
- Bell led the Friars with four assists.
- Corasaniti made 14 saves in goal for Providence.
- Horrigan and Hoffman recorded two goals apiece.
