NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by Youngstown State, 5-2, on Sunday, March 5 in its final game of the Purple and Gold Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.
GAME NOTES
-Sophomore
Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) hit an RBI in the first inning to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. Junior
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) scored the run.
-After the game went scoreless for three straight innings, the Penguins scored two runs in the fifth inning to gain a 2-1 advantage.
-Sophomore
Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to even the score at 2-2.
-Youngstown State scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead, 5-2.
-Junior
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) pitched 6.1 innings for the Friars striking out four batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Queens, N.Y. to kick-off BIG EAST play against St. John's University in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 10.
