Providence College Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Hobart, 13-11, At The FCA Lacrosse Invitational

Ryan Bell recorded a team-best six points.

SPARKS, MD. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team (4-4) fell to Hobart (4-3), 13-11, at the FCA Lacrosse Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 18 in Sparks, Md.

  
1stQuarter: 

·       Michael Chabra opened scoring for the day just over a minute into regulation (13:48) after converting a feed from Ryan Bell (1-0).

·       Hobart followed with three-straight goals in two minutes, to take a 3-1 lead at the 8:32 mark.

·       Bell, Chabra and Jack Horrigan combined for seven points on four goals and three assists over the next seven minutes to regain the lead (5-3).

·       Bell recorded his first goal at the 7:38 mark with an assist from Horrigan.

·       Horrigan then notched back-to-back goals with 4:31 and 3:41.

·       Chabra scored with 39-seconds left in the quarter, unassisted, for the Friars' final goal of the frame.

·       The Statesmen responded with just 15-seconds remaining to close the deficit to one at the break (5-4).

·       Hobart outshot Providence 17-12 and led in ground balls, 8-5. Providence won 6-11 face-off opportunities. 

  
2ndQuarter: 

·       Providence held Hobart scoreless in the second quarter and scored two goals to take a 7-4 lead at halftime.

·       Patrick McAleavey tallied his first point of the day on a goal at the 14:06 mark. Bell was credited with his third assist of the day.

·       Bell then followed with a goal of his own at 11:25 for the 7-4 lead.

·       Hobart outshot Providence, 13-8. Providence led in ground balls (7-4) and won all three face-off opportunities of the quarter.

 
3rdQuarter: 

·       The Statesmen opened the third frame with back-to-back goals (7-6).

·       The teams traded goals from that point on and Providence closed the quarter with a 9-8 advantage on the scoreboard.

·       Chabra netted his third of the day at the 13:12 mark (8-6).

·       John Hoffman scored Providence's final goal of the quarter with 7:03 remaining (9-7).

·       Hobart's Will Delano finished off the scoring at 5:42 to get the Statesmen within one.

·       Hobart led in shots (16-7) and ground balls (5-4). Providence went 4-for-7 at the faceoff 'X'.

4thQuarter 

·       Hobart dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Providence 5-2 for the 13-11 victory.

·       The Statesmen opened the quarter with a goal at 13:36 to tie the game, 9-9.

·       McAleavey scored his second goal of the day on a man-up opportunity at the 11:17 mark (10-9).

·       Hobart responded with four-consecutive goals to mount a 13-10 lead.

·       Ty Thureson scored with 1:10 remaining in a late push by the Friars (13-11).

Notes: 

·       Overall, Hobart outshot Providence 57-36 and held a 26-24 advantage in ground balls. Tom Fegley (5-11) and Quinn McConnaughey (13-19) combined for 18 face-off victories.

·       Bell led the Friars with six points on two goals and four assists.

·       Chabra scored a team-best four goals and the junior picked up his fourth hat trick of the season.

·       Goaltender James Corasaniti recorded 13 saves.

·       The Friars fell to 0-2 in their all-time series history against the Statesmen.

What's Next: 
The Friars will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face No. 14 North Carolina and close out their non-conference slate. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
