PROVIDENCE TRAVELS TO HAWK TERRITORY… The Providence College men's lacrosse team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 25 for a non-conference match up against the No. 12 Saint Joseph's University Hawks. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m.

SERIES BREAKDOWN… Since 1997, the Friars and Hawks have met 19 times. Providence leads the all-time series, 11-8.
 
MOST RECENT MEETING... The teams last met during the 2022 campaign at Anderson Stadium. The Friars fell to Saint Joseph's, 15-8. 
Matt Grillo led the Friars' offense with three goals and an assist. The Hawks scored 11 of their 15 goals in the first half. Saint Joseph's face-off specialist Zach Cole won 23-of-27 opportunities at the face-off 'X'.
 
LAST TIME OUT...Providence fell to Brown University, 13-7, in the last of two Ocean State Cup games on Tuesday, Feb 21. 
Michael Chabra recorded his sixth career-hat trick and led the Friars with four goals. Going into halftime, Brown held a one-point advantage over Providence but the Bears achieved a shutout in the third frame to take the 10-5 lead. They maintained the steady lead throughout the fourth, only allowing for two additional Friar goals.
 
FOURTH QUARTER PUSH TO VICTORY...Providence used a dominant fourth quarter to defeat Siena on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Friars outscored the Saints 7-0 in the final period to earn the 18-11 victory. Three players tallied hat tricks including 
Michael Chabra (three goals), 
Ty Thureson (three goals) and 
Jack Horrigan (three goals). 
Ryan Bell added two goals and two assists for four points.
 
On the defensive end, goalkeeper 
James Corasaniti recorded 17 saves and successfully shut out the Saints in the final quarter.
 
FIRST CUP GAME... Providence fell to Bryant, 15-14, in an Ocean State Cup battle on Saturday, Feb. 11. 
Ryan Bell recorded a career-best 10 points on a career-high six goals and four assists. 
Jack Horrigan posted his second hat trick of the season with three goals. 
Chad Cannon scored his first collegiate goal. Goalkeeper 
James Corasaniti tallied a season-high 18 saves.
 
Providence outscored Bryant 5-1 in the fourth quarter to mount a late comeback effort. Bell scored three of the Friars' five goals - all in the final 10 minutes of the game.
 
PROVIDENCE POWERS PAST HOLY CROSS... Providence got out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed en route to a 12-9 victory in the season opener vs. Holy Cross on Feb. 5 at Anderson Stadium. The match-up was featured by Lax.com as the organization's first-ever Game of the Week.
 
Michael Chabra and 
Jack Horrigan each recorded hat tricks in the game. Chabra finished with four goals, while Horrigan tallied three. 
 
Patrick McAleavey and 
Richie Joseph each tallied a game-high two assists. 
James Corasaniti, a graduate transfer from Fairfield University, made his debut with the Friars in goal and earned the win with 15 saves. 
 
JAMES CORASANITI AND RYAN BELL EARN BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR RECOGNITION... James Corasaniti and 
Ryan Bell earned BIG EAST weekly honors recognition on Monday, Feb. 20, following the team's 18-11 victory over Siena. Corasaniti was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Bell earned Midfielder of the Week.
 
Corasaniti made 17 saves against the Saints, just one shy of his season-high 18 against Bryant. Eleven of his saves came in the second half. Corasaniti was able to shut out the Saints in the fourth quarter, tallying six saves as Providence outscored Siena, 7-0. This is the third-consecutive game in which Corasaniti reached double-digit saves. The graduate student registered a .607 save percentage on the day, improving his overall save percentage to .588.
 
Ryan Bell registered four points against Siena, notching two goals and two assists. All of Bell's points came in the second half, recording a goal and an assist in both the third and fourth quarters. This recognition marks the third-straight BIG EAST weekly honor recognition for the sophomore.
 
MATT GRILLO MAKES PROGRAM HISTORY… Matt Grillo has amassed 110 career goals. Grillo ranks third all-time at Providence in career goals, behind Ed Loiselle '92 (136) and Ken Leahy '00 (112). Grillo also is tied for 13th in program history in career scoring, with 136 points. Leahy is the Friars' all-time leading scorer with 188 points on 112 goals and 76 assists.
 
PROGRAM BEGINS BOBBY BENSON ERA… The Friars welcomed a new coaching staff for the 2023 season led by Head Coach 
Bobby Benson. Benson spent the last two seasons at Maryland as the offensive coordinator during the Terps' run to the NCAA title in 2022. Maryland registered a 33-1 record during Benson's two seasons in College Park, earned two Big Ten Championships and made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship game. Before joining the Terps, Benson spent 14 seasons as the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Johns Hopkins. He helped Hopkins to 11 NCAA appearances, eight quarterfinal bids, three Final Fours and two National Championship games.
 
MEET THE STAFF... Casey Brodersen, who spent the last 12 seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Bryant University, was hired by 
Bobby Benson to serve as Associate Head Coach at Providence. He helped the Bulldogs to six Northeast Conference titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. 
Carroll Kennedy joined the Friars as an Assistant Coach. Kennedy worked alongside Benson at Maryland during the 2022 season and was previously named USILA Assistant Coach of the Year while at Limestone University in 2015. 
Colin Munro joined the staff as a Volunteer Assistant after completing his collegiate career at fellow BIG EAST Conference member, Georgetown, in 2022.

James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.), a graduate transfer from Fairfield University, and 
Patrick Yowan (Manchester, Vt.) a sophomore transfer from Loyola Maryland highlight the goaltending unit. Sophomores 
Pierce Gregory (Sherborn, Mass.) and 
Vincent Horton (Scituate, Mass.) come to Providence after playing at Bryant University as rookies in 2022.
 
BELL, CHABRA AND HORRIGAN PROVIDING OFFENSIVE BOOST… Junior

Jack Horrigan have led the Friar offense through the first four games of the regular season. Bell leads Providence and the BIG EAST in points (20) and in assists (10). Chabra leads the Friars in goals (12). Horrigan ranks third in the BIG EAST and leads the team with two man-up goals, contributing to his 11 for the season.
 
DEFENSIVE LEADERS... Sophomore 
Gregg Dennison continues to anchor the defensive line with help from senior 
Grant Latimer. Dennison has collected 14 groundballs, six of which came against Siena, and tallied five caused turnovers. Latimer has collected five groundballs with four caused turnovers. Graduate transfer goalkeeper 
James Corasaniti has earned a .579 save percentage with four consecutive double-digit save games this season.
 
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH FIFTH IN BIG EAST POLL... Providence was picked to finish fifth in the 2023 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (9 points). Georgetown was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Denver (20 points) was second and Villanova, who received one first-place vote and 18 points was selected third. Rounding out the conference standings was Marquette (13 points) in fourth and St. John's (five points) in sixth.
 
SCOUTING NO. 12 SAINT JOSEPH'S… This year, the Hawks were selected to finish second in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. Additionally, five players were selected for the Preseason All-Conference Team. The Hawks are 2-0 after recording victories over Fairfield and Towson.
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH… The Hawks are led by face-off specialist Zach Cole. The graduate student was named a USA Lacrosse Preseason Team All-American and added to the Tewaaraton Watchlist this season. He has gone 37-55 from the face-off 'X'.
 
The Hawks have had 13 players score throughout two games, highlighted by graduate student Levi Anderson who recorded three goals in each of the first two games.
 
WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will welcome the Fairfield University Stags to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 4. Opening face-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
