PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to cross-city rival, Brown University, 13-7, on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in Providence, R.I.
1st Quarter:
- Neither team was able to put points on the board for the first five minutes of regulation until Brown opened scoring at 9:56.
- The Bears followed just a minute later with another goal to bring them up 2-0.
- Providence answered Brown's 2-0 scoring run with a 3-0 close to the quarter.
- Jack Horrigan launched one from deep off the assist from Ryan Bell at 6:15.
- Michael Chabra followed with two goals of his own at 5:03 and 1:48, off assists from Bell and Dean Metzger, respectively (3-2)
- Brown had a small edge over the Friars in shots (11-8) and groundballs (7-5). The Bears won 5-6 faceoffs in the quarter.
2nd Quarter:
- Patrick McAleavey converted on a one-touch behind the back goal at the 11:06 mark off an assist from Ian Olenik for a strong second quarter start.
- Brown kept Providence from reaching the net for the next eight minutes of play and during that time, were able to tally three goals to gain back the lead (5-4).
- Michael Chabra notched his sixth career-hat trick at 3:03 to tie it up again (5-5).
- The Bears added one more goal to end the quarter and take the lead going into half (6-5).
- At the half, the Bears held the lead over the Friars in shots (24-18) and groundballs (13-6) and went 10-13 in faceoffs.
3rd Quarter:
- Brown recorded a third quarter shutout and, in that time, added four goals to extend its lead to five, 10-5.
- Providence got four shots off in the quarter, one on goal, but the Brown defensive line remained steady.
4th Quarter:
- Chabra notched his fourth of the afternoon at 9:13 with the help of Jack Kilian to get the Friars back on the board.
- Horrigan scored the last one for Providence at 5:51 off the assist from Bell.
- Brown tallied three goals in the fourth to end the game with a 13-7 victory.
Notes:
- Michael Chabra led scoring for Providence with four goals, three of which, came in the first half.
- Ryan Bell recorded three points on three assists.
- The Bears finished with the advantage in both shots (49-31) and groundballs (28-11). They also won 19-23 faceoff opportunities.
- Goalkeeper James Corasaniti recorded 16 saves for his fourth-consecutive game with double-digit saves.
WHAT'S NEXT… The Friars will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 25 to face Saint Joseph's University. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
