PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse earned an 18-11 victory over Siena on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Friars used a 7-0 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Providence improved to 2-1 on the season, while Siena dropped to 1-1.
1st Quarter:
- The Friars got out to a 2-0 lead through the first 4:22 of the game.
- Ty Thureson tallied his first goal of the season at the 12:32 mark to open the scoring.
- Dean Metzger followed with his first career-goal, at 10:58.
- Siena tied the game with back-to-back goals (2-2).
- Michael Chabra closed out the quarter with two goals in the last four minutes of play, at 3:47 and 1:31, respectively.
- Siena led the Providence in shots (12-8), groundballs (10-9) and won 7-8 face-offs of the period.
- Providence took a 4-3 lead into the break.
2nd Quarter:
- The two teams traded goals for the first 10:40 of the quarter, before John Hoffman scored consecutive goals at 4:20 and 3:05 of the quarter and provided an 8-6 lead for Providence.
- During the opening stretch, freshman Richie Joseph netted his first goal at the 10:53 mark, and Chabra followed to complete his second hat trick of the season at 9:55.
- Siena closed scoring in the second quarter at the 2:10 mark, to cut Providence's lead to one going into halftime (8-7).
- In the first half, Siena outshot Providence 23-16 and held a 19-16 edge in groundballs. The Saints won 13-17 face-offs in the first half.
3rd Quarter:
- Ryan Bell opened the second half with a man-up goal, assisted by Joseph at the 13:54 mark to give Provience a 9-7 lead.
- Jack Horrigan scored his first of the day at 11:51, with the assist from Will Ferraro (10-8).
- Ty Thureson notched his second of the day with 7:18 left in the quarter off an assist from Ryan Bell (11-9).
- The Friars could not mount more than a two-goal lead before Siena ended the quarter with two-straight goals to tie Providence, 11-11.
4th Quarter
- Providence outscored Siena 7-0 in the fourth quarter to claim the 18-11 victory.
- Jack Horrigan earned his third-straight hat trick with two goals in the fourth quarter. He scored at 10:33 off an assist from Chabra, and 8:37 with the assist from Patrick McAleavey, respectively.
- Pierce Gregory scored his first goal as a Friar in between Horrigan's two goals at the 9:40 mark.
- Bell continued the scoring run for Providence as he landed one on goal at the 7:41 mark.
- Thureson earned his first career-hat trick just two minutes later off an assist from Ferraro, his second of the day.
- McAleavey scored his first goal of the season as time wound down on the clock with just 2:18 left to play.
- Freshman Tyler Flynn closed out scoring with 1:16 left in regulation with his first career tally.
- Providence finished the quarter with 11 shots, 6 groundballs and won 4-7 face-off match-ups.
Notes:
- Chabra, Horrigan and Thureson each recorded a hat trick in the victory.
- Providence had seven additional players score goals during the game.
- Scorers consisted of four newcomers: Metzger, Joseph, Gregory and Flynn.
- Goalkeeper James Corasaniti finished the day with 17 saves and a .607 save percentage.

Providence will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 as they travel cross-city to face Brown University in the second and final game of the Ocean State Cup.
