Women's Basketball Suffers 53-51 Loss To Kennesaw State

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – The Providence College women's basketball team was outscored 25-8 in the fourth quarter and was defeated by Kennesaw State, 53-51, on Dec. 21 in the final game of the West Palm Beach Classic. The Friars dropped to 6-7 on the season, while Kennesaw State improved to 4-7.
1ST QUARTER:
• Brynn Farrell hit a three-pointer from the right wing just four seconds into the game.
• The teams were tied 7-7 with 4:17 on the clock before KSU used a 4-0 spurt to for a Providence timeout (11-7).
• Laryn Edwards halted the Friars' scoring drought with a drive to the hole with 1:12 remaining on the clock.
• Kennesaw State held an 11-9 lead at the intermission.
2ND QUARTER:
• Providence went on a 14-4 scoring run to take a 27-22 lead with 1:45 on the clock.
• Kennesaw State's Carly Hooks finished the half with a transition lay-up at the buzzer.
• Providence held a 27-24 lead at halftime.
• Farrell scored 10 of her 13 first-half points in the second quarter.
• Farrell shot 5-8 from the field in the first half, including 3-3 from three-point range.
• As a team, the Friars shot an impressive 62-percent in the second quarter (8-13).
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence opened the quarter with a 12-0 run to mount a 39-24 advantage. Farrell scored seven points during the span and Sarah Bandoma added five.
• The Friars held the Owls scoreless in the frame until Prencis Harden hit a floater in the lane at the 3:23 mark.
• Providence outscored KSU 16-4 in the third to take a 43-28 lead.
• Bandoma (nine) and Farrell (seven) combined to score all 16 points. The duo hit 7-11 attempts from the field (.636).
4TH QUARTER:
• Providence led by as many as 19 (50-31) with 7:52 on the clock in the fourth.
• Kennesaw State went on an 17-0 run to get within 50-48. During that span, the Friars were scoreless for more than 6:00 minutes.
• The Owls nearly tied the game with 44-seconds left, but Harden's lay-up attempt rimmed out and Laryn Edwards secured the defensive rebound.
• The Friars called timeout to advance the ball with 42-seconds left, leading 50-48.
• Edwards was fouled with 18-second left and made 1-2 free throws to extend Providence lead to three (51-48).
• KSU called timeout to advance the ball and tied the game on the ensuing inbounds play with a three from the left wing (51-51).
• The Friars called their final timeout to advance the ball with 13.8-seconds left on the clock.
• Providence was unable to convert and KSU was fouled with .07-seconds left in regulation.
• Harden converted both free throws to give Kennesaw State the win (53-51).
NOTES:
• Farrell matched her career high with 23 points on 9-17 shooting, including a 5-6 performance from the three-point line.
• Bandoma notched a season-high 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.
• Providence did not record a field goal in the final 8:42 of the game and were outscored 25-8 in the fourth quarter overall.
