PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) of the Providence College women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for February 2022, as announced on Tuesday, March 1. Abstreiter has been previously recognized as Hockey East Goaltender of the Week on two separate occasions (Oct. 11 and Jan. 3) and was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for December.
Abstreiter led the NCAA in February with eight wins, 328 saves and 671:11 minutes in net. Holding an 8-2-1 record through the month, her .953 save percentage ranked fifth overall in the nation and her 1.43 goals against average was 11
th. Six of her eleven outings included at least 30 saves, including a 32-save road shutout on Feb. 15 at Merrimack. The graduate student back-boned the Friars a 4-0-1 mark in one-goal games, including a 3-0-1 record in overtime contests. She allowed only one goal of fewer in seven of her 11 starts, including six consecutive games.
