PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Women's Hockey Commissioners Association (WHCA) announced on Tuesday (Feb. 22) the 12 goaltenders selected as semifinalists for the Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. Providence College goaltender
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) was named as a semifinalist for the award for the second-consecutive season.
Twelve goalies from four Division I conferences have advanced from a "Watch List" of 22 outstanding netminders. Voting was carried out by a panel of coaches, administrators and media members from across the country. Abstreiter is one of five are repeat semifinalists. In the 2020-21 season, Abstreiter was named as finalist for the award. Three finalists will be announced during conference championships and the winner will be announced during the NCAA Frozen Four at Penn State.
Abstreiter has posted a 11-10-4 record in the 2021-22 season with a .946 save percentage and 1.70 goals against average. She has recorded 757 saves and three shutouts through 25 games played.
